It’s fair to say that Katherine was a reluctant queen, but she was an excellent step-mother who did her best to bring Mary and Elizabeth back into the family fold. She was so trusted by Henry that she acted as regent during his final foreign war, handling the finances for his troops and signing five royal proclamations. Henry even appointed her as Edward VI’s regent, if Henry was to die while on campaign.
